Imposter Syndrome

The wonderful interaction that ensued after my growth mindset post raised a spectre I knew little about...

Imposter syndrome (IS) is the “false and sometimes crippling belief that one’s successes are the product of luck or fraud rather than skill,” states Merriam-Webster. The term was developed in 1978 by Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes, two American psychologists.

There are three handy tips I have used when I am down or struggling, not quite IS, but areas that need addressing!

1- Make sure you have great mentors (wise and trusted advisers) who know you and can help advise, support and coach. Mine are very special and there when I need them. In return, I am always there for my mentees.

2- What is the one thing that you have etched in your heart, stencilled in your brain, that makes you special, different and sensational? Keep this at the front of your note pad, your screen saver and metaphorically inked down your arm to always refer to!

3 - Have one rah rah video of substance, talk, quote or pick you up inspirer who lifts you or makes you smile. One I use often is Brene Brown's "The Man in the Arena": https://lnkd.in/gyEzT2G

On a light hearted note the graphic below never fails to make me smile and remind me never to take myself too seriously!
