I am a Proud Black Woman...

I am a proud Black Woman...In case you were wondering - this is not Harriet talking, it is me Abigail Maburutse - I am Harriet’s new marketing Ninja🐱‍👤, but she prefers to call me her Chief Marketing Officer 🙌An honestly slightly scary 'title' to be frank - as I have never been one before. But growing up, I rarely saw women who looked like me take on that role as a ‘CMO’.Unfortunately, I am one of the very few young black women who have had opportunities that I have, where currently I am able to work, learn and grow with the phenomenal Harriet - and this is because I was introduced by amazing Gemma ClarksonSharing with a lot of people my experiences so far, the word ‘lucky’ has cropped up on numerous occasions. But as a person of colour, I feel we shouldn’t solely be relying on ‘luck’ for opportunities anymore. It’s time that our colour, creed, sexuality, gender should not hinder the opportunities that are presented to us.With initiatives like Mission Beyond, it allows people that look like me - to be given opportunities to work closely with organisations that they wouldn’t have even ‘dreamed of’ to help sharpen their skills and work towards living a more fulfilling life.I am just 1 of a community of 1.8million Black Women in the UK, imagine how wonderful it would be if you managed to pass your pearls of wisdom to our generation. Now you have read this far if you want to make a difference here is what you can do.🤝Try and work with someone that doesn't look like you.🙌Accept that you are working with someone that may not look like you, think like you.😃And lastly, stop touching our hair.
